How to Start an eBay Business

November 17th, 2007

By: Bill Henthorn

Here is a list of ideas on how to start a business using eBay. I like the one about an eBay-drop-off-store. We actually had a guy in Walla Walla, Washington doing that for a living for quite awhile. He advertised in the newspaper and on the cable channels. The local newspaper even did a story on him and how he could help you get rid of all that junk in your garage. So read these ideas and see if maybe it would be better if you actually dropshipped for others instead of having them dropship for you. (Right? Wouldn’t that be reverse dropshipping if you shipped stuff out for some guy who had you sell it on eBay for him? LOL)

eBay has become a great way to sell all kind of merchandise on the web. A person can start out by selling personal items they wish to get rid of and graduate to selling merchandise that they find or contract for. An eBay business can become a full time business and for some be a very profitable enterprise.

How to get started on eBay

eBay has a website that can be found on the Net that describes exactly what a potential seller on eBay needs to do. There are many other sites that offer to help and or teach you how to be successful on eBay. There is obviously no lack of information and websites that are willing to help you get started.

Use What Youve Got: Capitalizing On Ebays Extensive Resources

November 14th, 2007

By: Chris Malta

If you are going to become a Powerseller on eBay and make millions dropshipping products, you really need to learn about all of the tools that are available on eBay, and then actually use them. I will try to find more articles that show you how to use eBay for making a living dropshipping products online, so check back often.

An eBay store is a tremendous sales channel for any Internet retailer. The traffic alone makes it more than worth the small price tag. But many eBay sellers dont avail themselves of the impressive line-up of marketing tools eBay supplies, and miss the chance to increase their exposure and improve their sales. States Rebecca Shapiro, co-founder of eBay store consulting service, http://OasisConnect.com, “I see very few sellers tapping into all the resources they have at their disposal. If you choose to use them, eBay gives you all the tools you need to brand, optimize, and market your business.”

Room for Improvement

Even if your eBay business is already doing well, you can affect a big difference in your bottom line with just a few small adjustments:

* Use your eBay store to advance your brand.

A big part of branding is creating a recognizable image; so when you set up your store, you want it to make sure it reflects your off-eBay web site. Besides choosing your colors and adding your logo, you can put in your own HTML code to create a very branded store that effectively identifies your product and your business.

Hook, Line, and Sinker

November 13th, 2007

Lisa really knows what she’s talking about in this article about making sure you do your customer service in a timely manor, and answer all questions that come your way. When you are trying to start an internet business, you will get mentioned online in a positive manor if you give people the service they want and expect, but just don’t get very often any more. I have a website that sell phone service, and I try to answer all emailed questions within an hour. If you don’t, then the customer will go somewhere else and you just lost a part of your income.

Responding to your customers the correct way can draw customers in for life. Believe it or not, if the customer is asking you, they probably haven’t been answered yet. Lets say you are the fifth vendor they have asked the same question and you were the one that finally answered them. They will surely be impressed first of all. In any business you run, you will have people asking you questions. From simple to advanced questions; how you answer them will be very important to your potential customer base. You want to treat each question like a potential customer.

Dropship Wholesale Distributors - 5 Killer Online Search Tips

October 21st, 2007

These are some pretty useful tips. Some of them were new to me, so I actually learned something new today. The one thing I haven’t been able to find though is who is the supplier for all the unlocked cell phones on eBay? Most of those are selling for less than all the wholesale prices I’ve seen. Anyone know the answer?

Dropship wholesale distributors are critical to your online reseller business. The number of people making a living online out of reselling stuff on online auctions such as Ebay is growing exponentially. Closing a sale is the first part of the equation. You would need your dropshippers to deliver the products to your customers on time. Not only that, you must make sure that the merchandise is of high quality. Since your reselling business is largely dependent on your dropshippers, it is paramount to make sure you use only the best dropship wholesale distributors.

Making Money Online With Drop Shipping

October 19th, 2007

Dropshippers give internet website owners the ability to open their own online stores without having to stock any of their own inventory. Just set up and account with a company that will dropship products for you without including their company information in the box, then put their products in your internet store and start selling. Anytime an order comes in, just forward it to the dropshipping company and they do all the rest. You get to keep the monetary difference between what you sold it for and how much you had to pay the dropshipping company for the product and shipping.

Earn Money With Dropshipping

One way to earn money online is through dropshipping. Similar to affiliate marketing, you will be selling books that are distributed by another company by creating a website, marketing the books and taking orders. While this may seem like an easy way to earn an income, you should look at this method carefully because you may be able to earn even more money by not having to rely on distributors.

When you create your website and start selling books, customers will not know that they are being shipped by the distributor. For a monthly fee, you will be given access to books that are available. Advertise these books anyway you want through websites, banner ads, blogs, articles and through other websites. When customers place an order, you will be responsible for collecting the money and processing the order. The order is sent to the book company who then ships the book to the customer. You will not have to worry about shipping the books, returns or making sure the book arrives on time.

The monthly fee you will have to pay for access to the books varies from distributor to distributer. Many distributors have thousands of titles for you to choose from based on which groups you want to market to. This saves you a lot of time in developing a product and shipping it to people. All the profits are yours and you can expand your list of books at any time. Many people have earned a steady income through dropshipping.

But dropshipping has its drawbacks as well. You may not be able to sell bestselling books, or new books until a certain amount of time has passed. The monthly fee can be very high, so if you are not selling enough books to cover this expense, you will lose money. If the distributor goes out of business, you will have to find a new distributor or a new product. Book sales vary from year to year depending on the needs of customers, so you will have to choose very carefully which books to sell.

Before you decide to enter into the dropshipping business, you should research distributors to see which ones are legitimate as there are some that will take your money and then disappear. Make sure the distributor will send books via regular post and via the internet as ebooks have become more popular over the years.

When you find a distributor that is legitimate, you should review their book list to see if there are books that will sell online. Out of print books, genre books, how to books and inspirational books usually sell online faster than novels, poetry and other types of fiction. Choose your books carefully and market them to the right groups on the Internet.

Inventory Problems With Dropshipping

October 17th, 2007

When dealing with dropship companies, you need to make sure that each company you deal with has an automated online inventory system that updates in real time. That way, you will know well ahead of time if one of the products that you are selling on eBay, or on of the other auction sites, is running low or is out of stock. It’s no fun trying to explain to a customer that the drill bits that he just paid you for won’t be in for 12 weeks. By using a live automated inventory system, these types of problems can be alleviated.

How to overcome the out-of-stock problem with dropshipping

The number one problem with the dropshipping business model is the out-of-stock problem. You come across this all over the place. Dropshipping is a very attractive business model because it does not require you to hold any inventory. For those who do not know about this, it is a special arrangement where the distributor is set-up to send the product directly to your end customer. The customer usually doesn’t know where the product came from, or care. This arrangement has become very popular for Internet-only stores because they typically don’t have the storage or capital required to stock actual inventory.

However, this brings about a new type of problem. With a regular store, the owner and the customer can generally tell what’s out of stock by looking at the shelf. In the online world the shelf is virtual and the customer is simply looking at pictures and reading descriptions. This leads to the common out-of-stock problem for dropshippers. This is amazingly frustrating to customers, particularly when they find out after they have already paid for an item.

The solution: Only use dropshipping distributors who have automated inventory systems that update regularly. Do your homework before signing up with a distributor and make sure they have this feature. Additionally, as an online store owner, you will have to invest in some type of automated inventory update on your end. You need a way to take this information from the distributor and update it on your web store very frequently.

We’ve accomplished this at our store by building a job that runs every 4 hours. The job pulls the most recent inventory data from our distributors and updates the quantities on-hand for all 15,000 products in our store. Using this strategy, we have not had ANY out-of-stock problems. We think that in the long-run this will be a competitive advantage for us, until it eventually becomes expected of all stores. In the mean time, we plan to offer a run-you-own estore front for others to benefit from the automation we’ve built into the store.

The Secret to Finding the Best Drop Shipping or Wholesale Product

October 13th, 2007

Most of the articles you read online say that Worldwide Brands is the best wholesale dropshipper to use if you want to start your own online store. With Worldwide Brands, you get a ton of products to offer in your store, and they will do all the shipping for you.

In order to run a successful eBay or online store business, you need a quality product.

But the one problem with trying to find a wholesale or dropshipping product is the prevalence of scams. As a result, many people risk getting ripped off by websites that offer bogus merchandise.

So before you go out and try to find a product at a wholesale discount, you should follow a few simple rules. When you are looking at a wholesale source, you should look for:

* A large selection of items that can be easily sold
* Companies that have full contact information listed on their website
* Websites that are updated at least once a week
* A refund policy if you are not satisfied with their listings

While you are researching different wholesale sources, you should decide on how you will be handling your merchandise. Basically you have to decide if you will purchase wholesale products upfront or arrange for a dropshipping agreement. Each choice has its own set of advantages or disadvantages. Let’s explore both choices…

When you purchase wholesale sources upfront, there are a few advantages. The best part is that you can have absolute control of your merchandise. You can avoid the risk of offering products that are not instock or available for shipping. In addition, with wholesale products you have a better chance of finding a wider selection of goods.

The disadvantage of purchasing wholesale sources is you have to spend money on merchandise that might not sell. So if you aren’t sure about a product, then it’s a risk to purchase goods.

With dropshipping there is a major advantage- you don’t have to make any upfront purchases. This is a great solution for people that don’t know what to should sell. All you have to do is offer your product. When it sells, you send an email to the drop shipping company and they will ship it for you.

But as mentioned before, it is often difficult to find the perfect item to resell. So you might have a bit of difficulty discovering the an item that is in high demand and will have a dropshipping agreement.

Whichever solution you decide to pick, one of the best places to purchase is from World Wide Brands.

Created by eBay Radio Host Chris Malta, WorldWide Brands is considered by many to be the best source for discovering drop shipping and wholesale sources. The researchers at this site make every effort to discover legitimate wholesale sources.

In fact, this source is the only wholesale and dropshipping product that is officially certified by eBay.

Worldwide Brands

October 11th, 2007

Worldwide Brands offers a wholesale directory for those who want to deal directly with the product manufacturer or distributor, instead of just getting a list of middlemen who will dropship the products for you, but at a substantially higher price.

Source of Dropshippers

Dropshipping is a proven and excellent way to earn additional income whether you would like to do it part-time or full-time. It is a great option for people who want an online retail business without the hassle of inventory. But, in order to be successful dropshipping, you need to have a list of legitimate suppliers, not middlemen.

You have to be careful when you are looking for legitimate dropshippers. There are a number of dropshipping directories on the internet that promise real wholesale prices, but most are actually middlemen that give you higher prices. It is extremely difficult to find a legitimate list of suppliers.

I had my share of problems with these middlemen. I signed up with many of these companies, and one after one I was disappointed because my profit margin was far too small. Some of them even ripped me off and didn’t give me a list!

When I found the Drop Ship Source Directory, I was initially skeptical. After reading that it was the only E-bay certified Solution Provider, I realized that the Drop Ship Source Directory was legitimate, and I purchased it immediately. It has lead me to substantially higher revenues from my online retail business.

It is very difficult to acquire a list of real dropshippers. That’s why the Drop Ship Source Directory is a must have for any dropshipper to be successful. Having this directory will save you money and time from not being scammed and having access to over 2 million wholesale products. Click Here. for more information on the Drop Ship Source Directory.

Using Dropship to Buy and Sell Electronics and Other Products

September 5th, 2007

As consumers, the Internet has given us unprecedented opportunities to shop for virtually all types of products from the comfort of our homes. Whether we’re in the market for electronics or a new computer, jewelry or a handbag, or household items or toys, it only takes a few clicks of our mouse to find what we need. At the same time, one of the challenges of shopping online is the timeliness with which our orders are fulfilled.

The supply chain of online stores is such that they often stock inventory on an “as needed” basis. That means that if you order a radar detector, for example, the online store may not have it in stock. The store may have to wait for their radar detector supplier to ship it to the seller, who in turn must ship it to you. That can mean delays ranging from several days to several weeks.

Some online merchants, however, use what is called dropship. This means that when you place your order, it goes directly to the manufacturer or supplier. The manufacturer or supplier, in turn, ships the product directly to you. So if you ordered both electronics and toys from the same online merchant, for example, you would get two shipments: one from the electronics supplier and one from the toy manufacturer. One advantage of dropship is that it bypasses the middleman (the online merchant) and cuts down the time your order reaches your doorstep. Another advantage of dropship is that your order won’t be held up by a backorder. In the example used above, your electronics will be shipped to you even though your toys may not be immediately available.

If you are an online merchant, dropship also offers a number of advantages. First, and most importantly, you don’t have to stock inventory. This means that you don’t have to rent space to store inventory, that you don’t have to track inventory, and that you don’t have to deal with the time and hassle of setting up a shipping department and shipping merchandise to your customers.

Dropship also allows you to sell a wide variety of products. Because you don’t have to stock merchandise, and instead can rely upon suppliers and manufacturers to do order fulfillment for you, your online store can carry everything from jewelry and handbags to computers and household items. You’ll never have to worry about how much of any particular item you need to order, and you’ll never have to deal with excess inventory. Reliable dropshippers will fulfill your customers’ orders quickly and efficiently, thus enhancing your reputation as an online seller.

Because online merchants who dropship don’t have the overhead expenses incurred by merchants that carry inventory, they can pass along the costs savings to their customers. As a result, customers can get terrific bargains, often buying electronics and other items at near-wholesale prices.

The $3000 Garage Sale: A Quick Overview for Aspiring Garagepreneurs

September 3rd, 2007

Call it whatever you like… Garage Sale, Yard Sale, Estate Sale, Tent Sale, Moving Sale, Rummage Sale. Whatever you call it and wherever you operate it, the Garage Sale seems to be the one retail channel that continues to thrive in every economic climate. Garage sales never goes out of style. And people love em.

Think you cant make serious money on a garage sale? Think again!

The first thing to understand is that a profitable garage sale — like any other profitable business — is not just dumb luck. Successful garagepreneurs know how to offer the right products at the right price at the right time…and cleverly promote each garage sale event.

Theres more to a successful garage sale than planting a Garage Sale! sign in your front yard and piling up a bunch of junk on a couple of card tables. Garagepreneurship is estimated to be a $2 billion per year industry — thats right, industry. Some enterprising garagepreneurs will make serious money this year.

The average profit for a weekend garage sale is $500 - $700. Does that sound good? Or do you aspire to make a few thousand dollars for a weekends work? Earning $1000 for a weekends work is easier than it may seem. Earning $3000 is not only possible, its realistic…if you choose well, price it right, present it well, promote it cleverly, and offer your buyers a pleasant shopping experience.

DECIDE HOW MUCH MONEY YOU WANT TO MAKE

First things first…

Set a revenue goal will help you choose merchandise and devise a realistic expenditures budget. Which breed of garagepreneur do you aspire to be? The Purger? The Quick Cash Weekender? Or the Stealth Wealth Accumulator?

THE PURGER. Garagepreneurs whose primary garage sale objective is to purge their junky closets. Money is a distant secondary goal.

THE QUICK CASH WEEKENDER. The garagepreneur who wants to raise a few hundred dollars for a couple of days work. (Junk-purging is just a bonus.)

THE STEALTH WEALTH ACCUMULATOR. This is the garagepreneur who views each garage sale as a small victory: accumulate enough victories and you build a real business. The Stealth Wealther often rakes in several thousand dollars per sale…then does it again in a few months, or even a few weeks.

The Stealth Wealther is already planning the next one before the first one ends. Yes, the Stealth Wealther carefully plots each venture, markets aggressively, and knows how to cultivate — and capitalize — on resources.

Chances are, youre not a Purger, or you probably wouldnt be reading this article.

DO GOOD RECONNAISSANCE

Check with your city clerk and local codes enforcement department to determine if there are ordinances and regulations on operating garage sales. Some municipalities require permits, and may regulate the number of garage sales you can have, as well as the number of consecutive days the sale can run. There are almost always signage ordinances you should know about; for example, ordinances forbidding you to post flyers on utility poles and signs in government right-of-ways.

Spy on local garage sales, ideally over the course of several weekends. Study your competitions advertising and promotional tactics, especially the successful competition.

DESIGN A FLOOR PLAN

Think like a retailer. Full tables and packed racks attract more interest and keep buyers interested longer, increasing the odds that youll sell almost everybody something.

LEARN HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT STUFF

A thought about Garage Sale Zen: A garage sale is a treasure hunt for shoppers. You must have some treasures. The serial garage sale shopper loves the thrill of discovering an unexpected treasure, at an affordable price.

As youre gathering merchandise, always always Think Profit. Focus on profit, every step of the way.

The more inventory you have, the more successful your sale is likely to be. Massive inventory generates excitement and hedges your bet that youll have something for everyone.

FIND GOOD SUPPLIERS

Scout high-quality wholesale/discount suppliers & dropshippers — many offer discounts up to 85% off retail. Get catalogs. Analyze profit margins. (Free Quality Merchandise Suppliers list available in authors resource box.)

DONT FORGET THE ZEN OF GARAGE SALE PRICING

The fundamental Zen of Garage Sale Pricing is simple: People are shopping your sale because they expect to find bargains. As you construct a pricing theory, never lose sight of the fact that this is a garage sale, not a Sothebys auction. That doesnt meant you cant get top dollar for unique, sought-after items — you can. But you must learn how to choose wisely, so as not to erode your profit.

MARKETING MATTERS. THE FIVE Ps APPLY.

Yes, the garage sale is a commercial enterprise, a shopping experience. But for most garage sales shoppers, your sale is also recreation and a social event, all rolled into one.

Whether we like to admit it or not, were all susceptible to packaging. A compelling package draws shoppers to your sale, and encourages them to linger once they arrive. Invent ways to package your sale, as well as your items. Tailor your efforts and the ambiance of your event to accomplish your specific revenue goals.

Youve probably heard of the Five Ps? When youre marketing goods to the public — whether youre garagepreneur or a multinational corporation — the Five Ps apply. (Technically, there are more than five, but marketers tend to have their favorite five.)

Product. Pricing. Promotion. Positioning. Publicity. Packaging. Pass-Along Permission.

Whether youre a Purger, Quick Cash Weekender or a Stealth Wealther, this quick overview should get you started. If youre a serious garagepreneur with serious revenue goals, you may need the complete $3000 Garage Sale Blueprint, which is available in Secrets of A Successful Garagepreneur: A Step-By-Step Guide to Making Serious Money on Garage Sales.

Good luck with that garage sale!
